The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (TUSPM) has a rich history that began in 1963 and was originally established as the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine (PCPM). This was a pivotal response to the closure of Temple's original medical school in 1960, which led several faculty members to obtain a charter from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to open a new institution dedicated to podiatric education. The school's inception marked a significant moment in the medical education landscape of Pennsylvania, setting the stage for future advancements in podiatric medicine and surgery.

In 1973, TUSPM made a monumental stride by opening its current campus, which was the first facility ever designed specifically for podiatric medical education. This state-of-the-art campus provided advanced classrooms and laboratories for its students and included student housing and a medical clinic, known as the Foot and Ankle Institute. This institute has since become a cornerstone of the community, offering comprehensive care and serving as a practical training ground for students.

The integration of TUSPM into the Temple University Health System in July 1998 was a significant milestone that enhanced the school's resources and reputation. Since then, TUSPM has continued to strengthen its relationship with Temple University and the Philadelphia community. It stands today as the only school of podiatric medicine directly associated with a major university, reflecting its commitment to educational excellence and leadership in podiatric medical education.
